Special Note To Players 1. Here's the deal. The max rate is the maximum amount of bandwidth a client can suck from you in bytes/sec. Your connection speed is in kilo bits/sec so some conversion is needed. So, 256k connection = 256,000 bits/sec. There are 8 bits in a byte so 256,000 / 8 = 32,000 bytes/sec available bandwidth. GNE Has Set It's MaxRate At 6,000 what does this mean to you. it means that the server will only supply a 6000 rate of data to you which 6000 is more then enough default is 2,500 if your above this rate it may cause you lag You will also need to monitor the rates of those players connecting. If they have thier rates set to higher than your server, you will notice decline in server performance ... from a players perspective.
2. Because I want 10000fps, the server has to include enough detail to give me the requested framerate (this is why it's a GREAT idea to turn your maxFPS down to 65-75 in SoF2...anything lower than 72fps steady will start to hurt your eyes after a while. Anything above 72fps is overkill, as that is the limit of the human eye in a non-motion blur capacity (more about that in a bit). Studies show the human eye can't distinguish between 90fps and 190fps. People will claim this isn't true, but it is. Recommend 70 /com_maxfps 70 So for the server to be able to fulfill my request for my 10000fps, it will include every single little piece of data, no matter how small and insignificant, even up to sending me data that states every players location, action, etc on the server. With 20ppl on this server, the server itself is not only having to send the other 19 clients their normal data, but its sending ME, the 20th client, my data PLUS data about every single polygon, projectile, destination, action, everything going on all at once. This causes lag 3. Turn Off All background Programs When playing SOF2 4. /cl_maxpackets 22 Sets the amount of packets transmitted to and fro server and client. This works in conjunction with /rate and /snaps commands. Default is 30 but 22 gives me best ping and stability. Suitable setting should be between 15-30, but no more or less. Playing with the numbers for /cl_maxpackets, and /rate will yield you a nice smooth connection and lower ping /snaps 22 /cg_lagometer 0 Now Actively Recruiting New Members.
